Learning on Our Porch

Spring is here and we are immersing ourselves in the season!  Ms. Jen and Ms. Kate's class is moving their work to the porch today.

Donut Day!

Today we shared the morning (and donuts!) with the special men in our lives.  Thanks to all of the dads, granddads, and friends for spending time in our classrooms!

Reptiles Visit the Outdoor Classroom

We LOVE visits from our friends at Tiedemann Park Nature Center!  Today we learned about reptiles in our Outdoor Classroom.  Students enjoyed close encounters with turtles, snakes, lizards, and a young alligator!

100 Days of Fun!

We're celebrating 100 days of school with Mrs. Lisa and Mrs. Emma's class!  Our children enjoyed dressing like centenarians and sorting their 100-piece treats.  It's hard to believe 100 days have passed this school year.  Time sure flies when you're having fun!

Family Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Our annual field trip to Legare Farms is certainly a multi-sensory adventure!  The students enjoy close encounters with the farm animals, trotting through the fields in search of their perfect pumpkins, and bouncing along with friends on the hayrides.

Mrs. Rachael + Mrs. Julie's Class

What a dynamic duo!  Over the past 7 years, Rachael and Julie have worked together to create an enchanting environment for their students.  Within the walls of their classroom, children feel challenged, engaged, loved, and respected.  Experience a morning in Rachael and Julie's room as they make learning fun!

Teachable Moments

We are surrounded by excitement at The Island School as the site work begins for our new building!  Our students and teachers are engaging in lots of conversations about excavators, tree root systems, and dirt.  We love these authentic, teachable moments!

Today on the Playground...

Our students spend much of their day outdoors, engaged in learning opportunities and free play.  Today on the playground, our little ones are playing instruments, painting group murals, examining bugs, running, participating in dramatic play, squealing and laughing.  It's a good day to be outside!

Today in Centers...

We believe that children learn through discovery and exploration, so much of our day is spent in centers.  Our teachers are very intentional about identifying skills for mastery and creating engaging centers which allow children to discover and reinforce those skills. Here are a few of the centers happening today...

End of Year Celebration

Our annual year-end celebration is a special time to honor our students and their families.  This year, our students have grown intellectually, creatively, in confidence, and in friendships.  We are so proud of our little learners!
